Why do wealthier people tend to believe in feng shui more?

In business, we all know that the business world is ruthless. There is a saying like this: Businessmen, business is the people who make you get hurt. They are always thinking about how to scheme against others and make money. As we all know, the business arena is like a battlefield, and it’s hard for them to handle. Moreover, the more money they make, the grander the business empire in their minds becomes. So, they are never satisfied. The more money they possess, the greater their dissatisfaction grows. Unlike ordinary common people, who will be content with just earning a little money. Businessmen don’t think that way. Take Mr. Ma Yun for example. We can’t estimate the vision of the business empire in his mind. Therefore, he hopes that he can occupy more resources. The more he proceeds, the more he realizes that his personal strength is limited and that there are many things that he can’t foresee as an individual. So, he will long for a mysterious force to push him forward.

For example, Mr. Li Ka-shing, a tycoon in Hong Kong, believes in feng shui. It can be seen from the names he gave to his two sons. Li Zeju and Li Zekai, both names were given by feng shui masters. “Ju” represents gold, “Kai” represents wood, and “Ze” represents water. According to the eight characters shown in the materials (of course, the specific birth time is not available). Li Zeju is the eldest son in the family. With the water life in the five elements, he needs gold and should avoid excessive wood. So, he was named Zeju to generate water with gold. Referring to the “Qiong Tong Bao Jian” (a reference book on the balance of the five elements in Chinese traditional culture) for the reference of the regulating and balancing gods of the elements, it says that when the water of the Heavenly Stem “Ren” is born in the month of the Earthly Branch “You”, if there is no “Jia” (an element in the five elements), use gold to activate the source of water. It’s called the meaning of the whole entity with single water offending metal elements “Geng” and “Xin”. Li Zekai is the second son in the family. With the gold life in the five elements, he prefers wood and fire and should avoid excessive earth. So, he was named Zekai. Firstly, it’s to generate water with gold and then generate wood with water. Secondly, it also implies that the eldest son protects the younger brother and the inheritance from one generation to another. It also hopes that the era of the Li family’s business empire can continue and change. Referring to the “Qiong Tong Bao Jian” for the reference of the regulating and balancing gods of the elements, it says that when the gold of the Heavenly Stem “Xin” is born in the month of the Earthly Branch “Hai”, first use water of the Heavenly Stem “Ren” and then use fire of the Heavenly Stem “Bing”. It’s called the clear water with gold, and the rest can be used as appropriate. Of course, it was also verified in 2018 that after Mr. Li Ka-shing retired, he passed on his business empire to the low-key eldest son Li Zeju instead of Li Zekai.

There is an old Chinese saying: Officials ask about punishments, the wealthy ask about disasters, and common people ask about getting rich. Literally, officials will ask when they will encounter difficulties, the wealthy will ask when disasters will befall them, and only ordinary common people will ask: When can I make money? So, many businessmen believe in feng shui. The richer they are, the more they believe in it. Because they feel that there is a mysterious force in the dark that they can’t control. Usually, the less capable people are, the more they think they are the best in the world; while the more capable people are, the more they feel that they are nothing, because their vision is broader. We know that the world and the universe are infinitely vast.

Looking into the distance, we will feel that individuals are so insignificant and that having some money means nothing. They feel confused about the vast universe, the long life, and the mysterious force in the dark. They hope that there is something that can guide them out of the maze and lead them forward. So, many wealthy people believe in feng shui and fortune-telling. For example, in the Ming Dynasty, the Later Jin couldn’t conquer the Ming Dynasty all the time, but was conquered by the Jurchens and then changed its name to the Qing Dynasty. You should know that the emperors of the Ming Dynasty had the surname Zhu and belonged to the element of fire. Fire restrains metal, so the Later Jin couldn’t conquer the Ming Dynasty. On the contrary, Qing belongs to the element of water, and water restrains fire, so it conquered the Ming Dynasty.
